Brenna DuvalStudent Nutrition Community Development Animator
Brenna has been interested in food issues and has valued community development since her mid-teens. Born in Manitoba, she spent many years working as a cook, taught herself how to garden, attended a fantastic social justice educational retreat, and co-organized local skill-share based community events and art festivals. After moving to downtown Toronto in 2008, she began growing her own vegetables in her neighborhood community garden and still continues to do so. She completed an internship at FoodShare working in their fresh produce warehouse for their Good Food Program and then became the Snack Program Coordinator at Our Lady of Victory Catholic School as well as facilitating hands-on Cooking Club workshops for elementary students during their after-school programs.
Brenna has also pursued more artistic endeavors by completing a fashion design certificate and a hair design diploma. However, Brenna found she missed the valued impact she could make by involvement in food and the community so she is thrilled to be a member of the FoodShare team where she can assist, inspire, and nurture the community through support of student nutrition programs in the central-downtown area. Outside of being a FoodShare Animator, you can find Brenna drinking tea, strolling through farmers markets, cuddling her cat, dancing silly in her living room, cooking up a storm at home, or learning a new hobby like archery.
