Dear Toronto, You’ve Changed

Where were you 25 years ago? It was 1991. Brian Mulroney was Prime Minister. Crystal Pepsi was a thing. My son wanted Lunchables. The first ever Earth Summit happened. I became FoodShare’s Executive Director.

As I plan to leave FoodShare in a few months, I look back at all the progress we’ve made when it comes to food. And I also think of all the work that still needs to be done. In 1992, Weston Road was a vibrant shopping area. Today, there are few fresh produce outlets in this west end neighbourhood of Toronto. That’s a lot of people without access to healthy food.

If you’re looking to support food access, consider supporting FoodShare. We’ve just moved to the neighbourhood. And we have plans to bring Good Food Markets to Weston Mount Dennis. We couldn’t do it without you.

Wishing you all the best this holiday season!
