Meet Brooke, Wynette, Ranu and Rosie. FoodShare’s resident kid experts. Together, they make up our award-winning Field to Table Schools team. For over a decade, this program has crafted fun lessons, projects and events for students from JK – Grade 12, and their teachers too!
Just last month, you may have been stopped in your tracks by the earth-shattering, synchronized apple CRUNCH they shared with 312,000+ others at their annual #GreatBigCrunch. Or maybe you’ve noticed a lot of solitary bees setting up home in student-made houses around the Weston and Mt Dennis neighbourhoods this spring? That was them too. Or, perhaps you peered through the windows at the MLSE Launchpad and saw kids making chef’s hats – ready to wrap up rice paper rolls with freshly harvested Good Food Machine tower produce? Yeah, that sounds like them!
From bees to leaves, from growing towers to edible flowers – the Field to Table Schools program has your child’s food literacy education covered. And they couldn’t do it without the generosity of like-minded funders supporting the program day-in and day-out. Folks like LoyaltyOne, who keep the Good Food Machine humming. Or George Weston Limited, who make sure that students across the city (and far beyond!) receive engaging food programming like the Great Big Crunch. Or the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation, who see the value in keeping hands-on, do-it-yourself food programming alive in our classrooms.
