Katie GermanDirector of Advocacy and Programs
Katie oversees FoodShare's programs happening in community and school spaces, and also ensures that programs are advancing our advocacy goals around reconciliation, racial justice, environmental justice, and realizing the right to food.
Her community organizing work centres on mobilizing people with class privilege to redistribute their wealth, organizing her neighbourhood around issues of affordable housing, displacement and gentrification, and ending the school to prison pipeline.
She completed a SSHRC funded research project on whiteness in food programming and the ways white supremacy is deeply embedded in food literacy education. Katie is always up for a chat about decentering whiteness in the food movement if you want to reach out.
Katie is enthusiastic about speaking on the following topics:
- How and why you should bring conversations of fatphobia into your workplace.
- Embedding food justice in your program design and organizational policies.
- FoodShare’s approach to advocacy work.
