Stop the Genocide of Indigenous Peoples
June 1, 2021
FoodShare is a food justice organization. We are collectively grieving.
Residential schools were part of a genocidal project meant to eradicate Indigenous peoples, destroy culture, language, and food ways. The legacy of residential schools continues to cause harm. And without meaningful work towards truth and reconciliation, the genocide that started with colonization continues. It must stop now!
FoodShare calls on all levels of government to immediately prioritize the implementation of the Calls to Action identified by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and the Calls for Justice identified by the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
These continued delays reveal a government that is guilty of continuing to perpetuate genocide. Reconciliation requires governments, organizations, and institutions to understand and respect the rights of Indigenous peoples, including fundamental human rights and to demonstrate true commitment toward building nation-to-nation relationships with Indigenous nations.
Implement the Calls. End the boil water advisories. Stop the genocide of Indigenous peoples.
